Weekly News Round-Up: Radiohead, U2 and more


Wondering if you’ve missed out on any of the week’s top news stories? Well wonder no longer – here Live4ever looks back on ten of the biggest headlines we featured during the last seven days in British music.

Radiohead

Radiohead fans are expecting a new album any time now after it was spotted that a company named Dawn Chorus LLP was set up last October.

It mirrors what the band have done ahead of the release of their two previous LPs –  ‘In Rainbows‘ and ‘The King of Limbs‘ – and carries the same name as a song discussed by Thom Yorke back in 2009.

Biffy Clyro welcomed in 2016 by performing the brand new song ‘On a Bang’, fan footage of which can be seen below.

Having spent most of last year both resting up and working on a new album, the band made their live return with Idlewild and Honeyblood at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations, and head into 2016 with various European festival appearances already booked, including visits to Germany’s Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park events in June.

The Kooks will re-release their debut album ‘Inside In/Inside Out‘ on January 22nd.

A similar story to Maximo Park‘s debut ‘A Certain Trigger‘, whose tenth anniversary was toured at the end of last year, the album rode the wave of guitar music’s increased popularity during the middle of the last decade and soared to number two on the UK charts in 2006, spawning hit singles ‘She Moves In Her Own Way‘ and ‘Naïve‘ as it did so.

Syd Barrett‘s 70th birthday was marked on January 6th when his official website relaunched with previously unseen photographs.

The founding member of Pink Floyd sadly died in 2006 having gradually fallen away from the limelight following his departure from the band in 1968 and a very occasional solo career.

Teleman have confirmed the details of a new album after returning last month with the Dan Carey-produced ‘Fall In Time’.

The band’s second LP ‘Brilliant Sanity‘ will be out on April 8th via Moshi Moshi, following the 2014 debut ‘Breakfast‘ – one of Live4ever’s top releases of that year.

U2

U2 are busy working on a new album which guitarist The Edge has compared to 1993’s ‘Zooropa’.

While the title ‘Songs Of Experience‘ draws a direct line back to 2014’s ‘Songs Of Innocence‘, The Edge has told Q the band are being pressed by producer Brian Eno to work on something less straight forward this time.

David Bowie handed a full premiere to his video for ‘Lazarus‘ just a day before the album ‘Blackstar‘ was released (January 8th).

You’ll discover more of Bowie’s twisted imagination in the video as he leads us through an unsettling tale from his hospital bed, adding to the 10-minute adventure wrapped up in the promo for last November’s ‘Blackstar‘ single.

Fans from around the world were able to share in the memorial service for Motorhead frontman Lemmy when it was streamed live on YouTube direct from the West Hollywood Sunset Strip between 5pm-9pm local time yesterday (January 9th).

“Wherever you are, PLEASE get together and watch the service with fellow Motorheadbangers and friends,” the band have said in a statement.

The Official Charts Company has confirmed the UK’s 40 best selling albums of last year, and Muse, Noel Gallagher and Coldplay are among those to have made the list.

Six weeks was more than enough for Adele to comfortably take first place with ‘25‘s sales of nearly 2.5 million, while Coldplay’s ‘A Head Full Of Dreams‘ is at #9.
