The Shins and Sir Paul McCartney are among a variety of artists to have signed up for a new festival album which has been compiled with the help of The DecemberistsChris Funk and will be released through Starbucks’ Hear Music label on October 30th.

McCartney has recorded the old classic ‘Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire‘ for ‘Christmas Rules‘, while The Shins have worked on their version of Sir Paul’s own Wings Christmas single ‘Wonderful Christmastime‘.

“I love holiday music,” co-producer Sara Matarazzo has said in a statement. “But every year I find myself going back to the standards. I wondered, where’s the holiday record for this generation?”

“As far as I’m concerned, I could walk on the moon and it wouldn’t surpass that,” she added when reflecting on persuading Paul McCartney to get involved.

A handful of upcoming bands are also taking part, with the likes of Calexico, The Civil Wars and Fruit Bats contributing. Previews of each of the songs are currently streaming on Soundcloud at this link.
