The Shins tease more new music online

James Mercer has got us all excited again for the next Shins album by posting the tiniest glimpse of new material on Instagram.

Mercer narrated the clip by revealing the final stages of recording are approaching, writing “final mixing of a new Shins record is underway”, after a fifth album from the band was first speculated just before Christmas last year when their label Columbia sent out an email to fans which read:

“Happy Holidays from The Shins. New year, new music!”

The Shins have been one of the very best exponents of understated, expertly crafted alternative US rock ever since their 2001 debut ‘Oh, Inverted World‘, a record which attracted acclaim which only continued through 2003’s ‘Chutes Too Narrow‘ and 2007’s ‘Wincing The Night Away‘.

The last Shins album arrived in 2012, and since ‘Port Of Morrow‘ Mercer’s ego has been massaged still further thanks to his collaboration with producer Danger Mouse on two Broken Bells albums.

Final mixing of a new Shins record is underway. I’ll post more soon! J
