Idles, Fontaines D.C., Anna Calvi and black midi are some of the artists to have received nominations for the 2019 Mercury Prize.

The shortlist is being put forward to this year’s judging panel – which consists of Stormzy, Annie Mac, Clara Amfo, Jamie Cullum, Gaz Coombes, Jorja Smith, Danielle Perry, Jeff Smith, Mike Walsh, Phil Alexander, Tshepo Mokoena and Will Hodgkinson – ahead of the winner being announced at the Eventim Apollo in London on September 19th.

Once, the latest track from Liam Gallagher‘s second solo LP Why Me? Why Not, has been made available as an instant grat to those who pre-order the album ahead of its release on September 20th.

Gallagher is set to perform the single on BBC Radio 1’s Piano Sessions this weekend, and has also been confirmed to play a MTV Unplugged concert at Hull City Hall on August 3rd.

An extensive Motorhead reissue series which will eventually cover over four decades’ of the band’s career has been confirmed to start on October 25th.

That date will see the release of 40th anniversary editions of the Overkill and Bomber albums, both as hardbound bookpacks in two CD and triple LP formats.

Bruce Springsteen‘s Western Stars documentary has been confirmed to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

We won’t know exactly when until the festival’s schedule is revealed next month, but we do know Western Stars is going to tell the story of Springsteen’s recent album of the same name through live footage and interviews.

DJ Shadow will be back with a new album later this year.

The first taste of it is a collaboration with De La Soul, Rocket Fuel representing his first new material since 2016’s The Mountain Will Fall brought its own essential collaborations, not least of which Nobody Speak with Run the Jewels.

Karen O and Danger Mouse will play a show at Los Angeles’ Theatre at Ace Hotel on September 6th after releasing the collaborative album Lux Prima, initially at select independent record stores late last year.

It’s being billed as the only live outing the pair will make together after the album got a full release on March 15th, 2019.

Kano has announced an October UK tour to support his new album Hoodies All Summer.

Kano’s sixth studio album is out on August 30th as the follow-up to 2016’s Mercury-nominated Made In The Manor.

A new video for David Bowie‘s Space Oddity has been shared on the 50th anniversary of the single’s original release.

Neatly coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s journey to the moon, the 2019 version features on the recent box-set of Space Oddity, and was mixed by Tony Visconti.
