News Round-Up: Lil Nas X, Hard Fi

Lil Nas X

Our recap of the main stories we featured during the past seven days includes big tour news from Lil Nas X and Hard-Fi.

Lil Nas X will begin his first ever world tour later this year.

The ‘Long Live Montero’ dates open at The Fillmore in Detroit on September 6th and continue around North America for over a month, moving into October at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.

European gigs are booked for November, including an appearance in the UK at London’s Eventim Apollo.

Mogwai have released Boltfor after initially laying down the track during the sessions for As The Love Continues at Vada Studios – the album which handed the band their first UK number one and a Mercury Prize nomination last year.

Work was completed at their own Castle Of Doom studios last month and it’s out now with a video directed by Sam Wiehl, who worked on the visuals for the As The Love Continues lead cut Ritchie Sacramento, and who is currently collaborating with Yann Tiersen on a live AV show.

“The video is a visual metaphor for the constant movement in life and the unceasing urge to move forward as individuals…in the form of a metaphysical road movie,” Wiehl explains.

Tyler The Creator rocketed back to number one on the chart Billboard 200 after making Call Me If You Get Lost available on vinyl.

In the process, Tyler’s sixth studio LP has broken the record for a rap album’s weekly US sales on vinyl in the US, and has the ninth highest total for any album since 1991.

“This should be a scary time for people who hate either rap and themselves or both,” our review reads.

Hard-Fi

Hard-Fi’s original line-up of Richard Archer, Kai Stephens, Steve Kemp and Ross Phillips will be back together for their first gig since 2014 on October 1st this year.

“It’s fair to say it’s been a while since we’ve all played together so we’re all really excited to be getting on stage again and seeing some of our incredible fans,” Archer says.

“It’s a Saturday night so hopefully we can recapture the spirit of those gigs back in the day. We may even throw out one or two new numbers into the mix. The Forum is one the classic venues to play, so it’s going to be a special night for everyone.”

Oasis founding member Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs has revealed he will be undergoing treatment for tonsil cancer and is thus taking a step back from music.

“Just to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while,” his tweet reads. “I’ve been diagnosed with tonsil cancer, but the good news is it’s treatable and I’ll be starting a course of treatment soon.”

“I’ll keep you posted how it’s going, I’m gutted to be missing the gigs with Liam and the band. Have the best summer and enjoy the gigs if you’re going, I’ll see you soon.”

The Big Pink have returned after a decade’s break with the new single No Angels.

“It’s a track reflecting that moment when you understand that all you’ve set your sights on has led to a place far away from where you should be and everything you truly love,” Robbie Furze explains.

“It took sacrificing everything I’d built in London and moving to Los Angeles, a place I thought I needed to be in order to achieve my dreams, for me to realise that it was about much more than just myself.”
