The Enemy have admitted they are entering the ‘make or break’ period of their career as they work on a third studio album.
After being a part of a commercially successful period for British guitar bands when they released debut album ‘We’ll Live and Die In These Towns‘ in 2007, The Enemy found the going a lot tougher when the follow up ‘Music For The People‘ arrived in 2009.
The Enemy plan to give fans the first taste of their forthcoming new album at an impending Leamington Spa gig, and will also play debut record ‘We’ll Live and Die In These Towns‘ in its entirety.
Fifteen years after Oasis and Blur’s sensationalised singles scuffle, the media are dinging the bell for round two. But in place of the northern monkeys and southern fairies this time are two oblivious competitors being hammered into a ‘next big thing’ shaped hole.
Live4ever’s highlights this week include a new album from a Manchester legend, a farewell gig from a popular Sheffield band, and the return of a long-running music-based TV series.
Albums
Ian Brown‘s new album ‘My Way‘ is released this week. The album has already spawned hit single ‘Stellify‘, and has been hailed as his strongest solo album to date. Elsewhere, US band Alice In Chains release their first album since 1995 – ‘Black Gives Way To Blue‘ is out on the 29th.
Tom Clarke has revealed his band The Enemy are interested in writing England’s official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The band have made no secret of their love for football since bursting onto the music scene a few years ago, and have played at their beloved Coventry City’s home ground The Ricoh Arena on two occasions – once headlining and once supporting Oasis.
Day 1 (7/8/09):
It was my third visit to the mega festival, which is held just outside of Tokyo, Japan. I saw Oasis and Kasabian for the first time in 2005, in 2007 I enjoyed The Enemy, Kasabian, Manics, Arctic Monkeys and many more, and 2009…?
Summer Sonic is a 3 day festival, held in Chiba and Osaka (just like Reading and Leeds). It was a 2 day event until last year, but was expanded to 3 days to celebrate it’s 10th anniversary this year.
We arrived at a very crowded Kaihin Makuhari station at around 10:30, a couple of boys were asking for tickets to buy as it was sold out. I ordered my tickets for day 1 – just to see The Enemy and Kasabian – via the festival’s website and I didn’t receive them until the day of the event. I was so worried that I was going to miss those bands that I bought another ticket upon my arrival in Japan 2 weeks earlier! Of course my original tickets showed up 3 days before the festival was to start , obviously I now had no problem selling the extras to the Japanese fans I ran into. That saved me a fortune!
The Enemy frontman Tom Clarke has lept to the defence of Liam Gallagher after Oasis cancelled their Sunday night V Festival spot after he came down with laryngitis.
The decision has provoked criticism from some festival goers and media out-lets, while one paper has claimed the move is a further sign of the band’s rumoured plans to split. However, Clarke told Absolute Radio Oasis would have only cancelled for the right reasons, as the Gallagher brothers have been able to put off-stage differences to one side in the past. “If they’ve cancelled it’s for a legitimate reason,” he said. “I hope everyone cuts him a bit of slack and doesn’t whinge about it, ‘cos shit happens.”

Kasabian will headline this year’s Liverpool Music Week, a series of gigs taking place across Liverpool in November. The band top the bill at the Liverpool Echo Arena on November 16th, while The Enemy play Liverpool Uni on the 8th and Reverend & The Makers perform at The Nation, Courtyard on the 7th. Liverpool Music Week began in 2003, and last year over 80 events were organised, with over 300 gigs being performed to 55,000 people.
Speaking about the event, director James Barton said: “Liverpool Music Week has gone from strength to strength over the last 7 years and attracted some of the UK’s biggest acts, this year we’ve secured Kasabian our biggest headliner to date, attracting a band of this stature proves just how far the festival has come.”
Kasabian at Wembley Stadium last week.
Fellow director Mike Deane also spoke of the growing reputation of the event: “It was always going to be a difficult task to better the amazing year we had in 2008, and we’ve worked extremely hard since the start of the year to ensure the festival is once again bigger and better. This is just the first of several big announcements for Liverpool Music Week 2009.”

The Enemy frontman Tom Clarke has finally put the supposed “feud” between he and Brit-rock elites Oasis to bed in an interview with XFM’s Steve Harris.
After interpreting a comment from Clarke as saying that the Mancunians were “past it”, Liam was quick to return fire on May 19th via his Twitter account. The misunderstanding prompted the question “Do you want to go on 1st or what you little fucker?” regarding The Enemy’s support slot for Oasis’ UK stadium tour.
On May 20th, however, Clarke was only too eager to subdue the storm, labelling the interpretation as “complete and utter bollocks” and offered a reminder that Oasis are one of his “favourite bands ever”.
Despite this, further panic arose when Clarke withdrew his band from the power-cut plagued Heaton Park show on June 4th due to food poisoning. But there was no time for tears as the Coventry-born singer recovered for the follow up gig on the Saturday and “Liam came up straight away” and swept the misunderstandings under the carpet.
Speaking of the tour itself, Clarke referred to it as the “best tour we’ve ever been on” after previously saying that it was “an absolute honour for them to invite us onto their tour”.
On the subject of the tour lineup itself, consisting of Oasis, Kasabian, The Enemy and Twisted Wheel, Clarke didn’t spare a moment before resolving that it is “probably the best bill that’s ever existed”. Although he did concede that his view of Oasis’ headline slot from the side of the stage was sub-standard compared to the fans perspective. “You’ve got to be out there, steaming, singing the songs.”
