Weekly News Round-Up: Morrissey, Slaves and more

Morrissey

Morrissey will release his next solo LP Low In High-School on November 17th.

Following the ignominious departure from Harvest after his last studio effort World Peace Is None Of Your Business, this time Morrissey’s own newly formed label Etienne Records will be working with BMG.

A live version of Liam Gallagher‘s most recent As You Were single For What It’s Worth, recorded at Air Studios, has been posted.

Gallagher’s debut solo album is released on October 6th, featuring writing credits from Greg Kurstin and, on this track, Simon Aldred of Cherry Ghost among others.

Shortlisted artists including Alt-J, Blossoms, Dinosaur, Glass Animals, J Hus, Kate Tempest, Loyle Carner, Sampha, Stormzy, The Big Moon and The xx have all been confirmed to perform at the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize Awards Show, which will take place at the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo on September 14th.

An opportunity to gain possession of some rare memorabilia from the recording of one of The Beatles‘ signature anthems is expected to produce a hefty price at auction next month.

The original score for Eleanor Rigby, handwritten by producer George Martin, has been predicted to command a price of around £20,000 when it goes under the hammer at the Beatles Memorabilia Auction in Warrington on September 11th.

Paul Weller will follow-up his A Kind Revolution album with the release of a brand new vinyl EP on September 29th.

Mother Ethiopia will contain three versions of the title-track; the first sees Weller resuming his association with Stone Foundation, while ‘part two’ features Bongo Bob and three a vocal version featuring London-based Ethiopian outfit Krar Collective.

A short documentary has been posted by BBC Introducing to mark the five years since Slaves released their mini-album Sugar Coated Bitter Truth.

Slaves returned to the Tunbridge Wells Forum, where their first collection was recorded, last month to remember the start of a rise which ultimately led to the 2015 Mercury-nominated full length debut Are You Satisfied?.

Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis is apparently ready to start working on the band’s next album.

Two bags worth of flowers should set the mood according to his post on Instagram, on which he says he’s ‘off to write the next record’.

Queens Of The Stone Age got this year’s Leeds Festival off to a memorable start by playing an unannounced set on the Main Stage.

On the day of the release of their new album Villains, Josh Homme and co. kicked the Friday off when performances from the likes of Liam Gallagher, Blossoms and headliners Muse still to come.

Everything Everything will tour the UK and Ireland next year.

At Reading/Leeds this weekend, and with appearances coming up at the Electric Picnic and By The Sea festivals next month, the band have revealed the details of eight 2018 shows which begin in Dublin on February 28th.

Kasabian will head out on a 12-date tour of the UK and Ireland in the winter.

With support coming from Slaves, the tour opens up at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on November 24th, and visits Ireland for a sole date at Dublin’s 3Arena a few days later.
