An opportunity to gain possession of some rare memorabilia from the recording of one of The Beatles‘ signature anthems is expected to produce a hefty price at auction next month.
The original score for Eleanor Rigby, handwritten by producer George Martin, has been predicted to command a price of around £20,000 when it goes under the hammer at the Beatles Memorabilia Auction in Warrington on September 11th. By some coincidence, recently discovered deeds for the grave of Eleanor Rigby Deeds, dated 1899 with her name written inside, will also be sold.
Eleanor Rigby’s string arrangement is a classical opening to the The Beatles’ 1966 album Revolver, itself now one of the most celebrated studio albums of all time.
Despite the Eleanor Rigby headstone being at Liverpool graveyard close to where Paul McCartney first met John Lennon, McCartney has often claimed he came up with the name entirely by chance, and was at the time unaware of this apparently obvious connection.
