A landmark gig for Blossoms and the return of MGMT were among last week’s biggest headlines.

Blossoms have announced their biggest ever outdoor show at Wythenshawe Park on Sunday, August 25th 2024.

The band are following in the footsteps of Noel Gallagher who launched the Manchester space as a live music venue earlier this year, and have namechecked the Oasis songwriter’s past gigs as a high point to chase on their own big night.

“Headlining our biggest show yet at Wythenshawe Park is going to be THE moment of our career so far for us,” Tom Ogden said.

The Prodigy, The Pet Shop Boys and Green Day have been unveiled as the main stage headliners for next year’s Isle Of Wight Festival.

Organiser John Giddings said:

“We’re thrilled to announce our 2024 headliners today and to continue to showcase a truly exciting array of talent for next year’s Festival. From globally-recognised and pioneering artists, to chart-topping talent and rising stars, we can’t wait to welcome everyone to the island next year. Fans should stay tuned for more news soon!”

Now And Then, the track being dubbed as ‘the last’ from The Beatles, has premiered.

Both Peter Jackson and AI technology have been credited with restoring the sketchy demo which obsessives were already familiar with, one originally handed to Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr during the nineties’ Anthology era in a set which also included the ultimately completed and released Free As A Bird and Real Love.

“There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear,” McCartney recalled of the restoration.

MGMT will make their return on February 23rd next year.

The duo’s fifth album Loss Of Life – set to be their first since 2018’s Little Dark Age – has been earmarked for that date, and it’s been unveiled with a video for new single Mother Nature whose director Jordan Fish has said hopes it, ‘makes people happy and feel connected to family, friends and the animal kingdom as well’.

“We are very proud of this album,” Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser added.

Bruce Springsteen has added a 22-date European tour to his 2024 live plans.

Stadiums are booked continent-wide for the spring and summer of next year, beginning in Cardiff on May 5th.

Outdoor UK and Ireland concerts will take place from there in Belfast, Kilkenny, Cork, Dublin and Sunderland, while the mainland European gigs commence on May 25th in Marseille.

Bob Vylan will release their new album Humble As The Sun on April 5th next year.

The London duo have picked He’s A Man as the album’s lead single, and describe it as ‘for the underdogs’:

“The ones who come out swinging and those who refuse to be defeated in the face of injustice, and aims to remind listeners that anger is a fire that can be harnessed and put to use. The album creation started from a conversation with the sun, which is, after all, a big ball of fire that sustains life.”
