The first acts picked by Robert Smith for this year’s Meldown Festival have been announced.

My Bloody Valentine, The Libertines, Mogwai, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones and the Manic Street Preachers are some of those who’ll be playing the Southbank Centre in London this coming June.

“I am honoured and excited to be curating the 25th Meltdown,” Smith said when he was revealed as event’s latest curator last month. “More than 30 of my all-time favourite artists – some of the most exciting, inspirational, intense and influential performers of the last 40 years – will make sure this 10-night extravaganza is the must-see event of the summer!”

And upon this announcement, he’s added:

“As each invitee confirms, as each shimmering piece falls into place, I pinch myself – this is really happening. And the complete picture will undoubtedly be out of this world!”

Smith himself has a big London performance in the near future when The Cure headline British Summer Time in Hyde Park as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations.
