Kaytranada came out on top at Canada’s Polaris Music Prize ceremony yesterday.
The artist finished ahead of competition from the likes of Black Mountain, White Lung and Grimes to win a $50,000 cheque thanks to ‘99.9%‘.
“For me, it’s crazy to get this award,” he said. “It’s really, truly, a big honor. It’s amazing. Shout-outs to all of y’all. I want to thank the judges and everybody for voting for me.”
The win comes a week after Skepta also quietened some more high profile opposition including Radiohead and The 1975 to win the UK’s 2016 Mercury Prize.
