asylums

Who?

Luke Branch – Vocals and guitar.
Jazz Miell – Guitar.
Michael Webster – Bass.
Henry Tyler – Drums.

Where?

We all live in Southend On Sea, home of the longest pier in the world.

How?

After our previous musical projects spun drastically out of control, we decided to meet up to work on some of Luke’s new songs for fun. It was easy and natural from day one so we just kept at it.

Why?

Pavement, Seinfeld, Supergrass, Mad Magazine, Grand Royal Records, Minor Threat, Sleater Kinney, Traams, Paws, Blur, Captured Tracks, Public Enemy, Creation Records.

Past?

Barmen, electrician’s assistants, music teachers, grass cutters, songwriter for hire, researchers, unemployed, models, graphic designers.

Present?

Bi-polar manic distortion.

Future?

Biggest cult rock band in the land.

Did you know?

Luke played the bicycle horn on stage with The Vaselines on a recent tour with them. Francis picked our new single ‘Wet Dream Fanzine’ – she said, “I like the one about servicing yourself!”.

What’s next?

Finish our album during February and March, then live shows galore and more generally quirky visual shit. We play The Scala with Carl Barat & The Jackals on 15th April.

Live4ever:

With three tracks coming in at just under six minutes in total, Asylums don’t waste any time messing around on the debut EP ‘Wet Dream Fanzine’. Plenty of powerful riffs coupled with swaying melodies and drums that sound like a raging maniac must be on the sticks. But don’t worry, there’s no overproduction here. The music is straightforward; kill the lights and turn the volume up to ten. Put all this together with vocals and lyrics that add a punk rock sound to a touch of pop that’s just noticeable enough to imagine a knowing wink from the band, and to say this EP sounds ‘energetic’ is a classic understatement. ‘Wet Dream Fanzine’ finishes fast and leaves you waiting for more. Mission accomplished.
