As the release of their new self-titled album approaches, Augustines have been reflecting on the impact 2011’s debut ‘Rise Ye Sunken Ships‘ had on its recording.
“The last record we made entirely for ourselves,” bass player Eric Sanderson told XFM.
“This record we made with the awareness that there was an audience and that somebody would eventually hear it.”
The emotionally charged ‘Rise Ye Sunken Ships’ very gradually built a strong following for Augustines in the UK off the back of some prolonged and intensive touring during the intervening months and years.
“That kind of combined with our own desire to broaden our palate and to work with space a lot more and to be more expressive in the studio,” Sanderson continued. “We tried as hard as we could to be more of a performance based record than some kind of intellectualised cut and paste electronic production. The whole concept was to try and capture the feelings of our live show.”
‘Augustines‘ is set for release on February 3rd.
