Anyone who’s seen the film 24 Hour Party People and their idea of how Shaun Ryder and Bez first met will not be surprised to learn the Happy Mondays frontman has been telling The Sun newspaper of his belief in alien life.
“Chile is the fucking UFO capital of the world,” he is quoted as saying in the tabloid today. “The Chilean Air Force don’t keep anything secret, man.”
“I’ve seen some absolutely mind-boggling stuff. They filmed something that is definitely a UFO flying in and out of their airplanes at 6,000 miles an hour.”
“This one thing looks like Star Wars Stormtroopers coming down from the sky on what looked like pogo sticks. That’s authenticated footage. And no, it’s not the drugs talking.”
Like their Manchester contemporaries The Stone Roses, the Happy Mondays are said to be planning a new album next year after a positive run of live reunion shows during 2012.
