“Tiny Lights, the North East’s coolest and most prolific indie label, have welcomed a new arrival to their fold, in the form of Brighton four-piece The Hundredth Anniversary. Formed in January this year. The Hundredth Anniversary are inspired by bands including The Velvet Underground, The Walkmen, Explosions In The Sky and Orange Juice. The Hundredth Anniversary are Andy Taylor (guitar), Chris Lowe (bass & backing vocals), Demelza Mather (drums) and Eleanor Rudge (guitar and vocals).”

The Soft Pack are back with Strapped, which will be released 1st October 2012 on Mexican Summer. It’s an adventurous album that finds the Los Angeles-based foursome breaking with expectations and exploring the possibilities of how they can push their sound. In making it, the group took to heart a quote from the sage Pasadena thinker David Lee Roth that goes something like: “The first rule of rock & roll is if it sounds good, it is good.”

“Drive-By Truckers’ front man/co-songwriter Patterson Hood will release his solo album ‘Heat Lightning Rumbles in The Distance’ through Play It Again Sam on 10th September. Recorded at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, GA and produced by David Barbe and Patterson Hood, the album will be available on CD, vinyl and download. ‘Heat Lightning Rumbles In The Distance’ is the follow up to Hood’s 2009 album ‘Murdering Oscar (And Other Love Songs)’. A single ‘Better Off Without’ follows the album on 17th September. Patterson has confirmed a show at London’s Union Chapel on 13th November, where he will be joined by Craig Finn of The Hold Steady and Will Johnson from Centro-matic.”

“August 27th see’s the UK release of ‘Modern Myths’, the debut album from Les Jupes. A new band from Winnipeg, Canada, Les Jupes are versed in expansive musical landscapes, sharp lyrics and an observer’s eye for the world. ‘Modern Myths’ was recorded over a year and a half when Montreal producer/engineer Marcus Paquin (frontman of Last Gang’s Silver Starling) found time from working on Arcade Fire’s ‘The Suburbs’. Built around frontman Michael P. Falk’s baritone, charging through waves of psychedelia and driving rhythms, it is a pounding and introspective record, in equal parts fierce as it is playful.”

Following on from the lauded ‘All The Bros Say’, Boston, MA guitar-pop maestros Abadabad have released ‘Will She Remember Me’ from the forthcoming ‘The Wild’ EP. ‘The Wild’ will be available digitally worldwide on 11th September. ‘Will She Remember Me’ is another joy-filled example of Jeremy Lee Given and co.’s ability to weld gorgeous, homely guitars with infectious, romanticised melodies. Taking a slower tack to that of the Hype Machine-charting ‘All The Bros Say’, the track acts as its forelorn sibling and bringing a tape-recorded piano ode to the fore. Given’s southern drawl remains front-and-centre as a bittersweet triumph of a chorus breaks through the song’s subdued markings to become a lo-fi paean to the summer’s beautifully prolonged apex.”

“Hot on the heels of the release of their much anticipated album “Family” on July 23rd, The Cast of Cheers are releasing their brand new single “Human Elevator” – perhaps their most addictive track to date. As drums pound and looped riffs unspool, lead singer Conor brings a thrilling air of combustible menace to proceedings as he sneers, “we go down/ I spit you out” in the verses before exploding into a volatile chorus, making it one of the finest slices of angular dance rock you’re likely to hear all year.”

“If you’re not familiar with Ken Stringfellow, he is co-founder of widely acclaimed Seattle band The Posies. He spent ten years on the road and in studio with R.E.M., appearing on 2001’s “Reveal” and 2004’s “Around the Sun” and he was also part of rock legends Big Star from 1993 until the death of Alex Chilton in 2010. Ken has made onstage and on-album appearances with Neil Young, Patti Smith, Mudhoney, Snow Patrol, Death Cab For Cutie and more.”

“Since 2003, The Wooden Sky has been pushing the limits of folk and country. After touring on the success of their sophomore album ‘If I Don’t Come Home You’ll Know I’m Gone’, the band was ready to try new things. Singer Gavin Gardiner explains, ‘After two years out on the road, it seems everyone had their eyes and ears open searching for new textures to play with’.”

“The video for The Irrepressibles‘ New World features an imagining of a relationship rescued from oblivion. Beautifully shot,it presents a surreal backdrop against which the protagonist confronts his demons, and a surprising ending when all is thought to be lost. ‘New World’ is part of a double A sided single released on August 27th. It embraces 50’s style doo-wop with sub-bass and a driving dark 80’s new wave in a song about emancipation.”
