The Rolling Stones won’t perform at London Olympics

The Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has said the band are unlikely to appear at the opening ceremony of this summer’s London Olympics after guitarist Keith Richards revealed last week their plans to tour this year to mark their 50th anniversary have been delayed to 2013.

“Basically, we’re just not ready,” Richards told Rolling Stone. “Instead, 2013 is the new goal. “I have a feeling that’s more realistic.”

And Charlie Watts has confirmed that means a rumoured performance at the London Olympics is also off the agenda, admitting that he didn’t want to play the gig anyway. “I don’t think we’ll do the Olympics opening ceremony,” he said. “I didn’t want to do it for a start. I’d love to have done the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee because that’s a great thing, I think, but I don’t think we’d have the time to do it.”

“It’ll be a night of the Sirs, won’t it, with Paul McCartney and Elton John.”
