Steven Tyler Denies Aerosmith Split Rumours

aerosmith2Newly appointed American Idol judge Steven Tyler has moved to ease fans’ concerns over the long term future of Aerosmith after he admitted this week he has been having trouble getting in touch with bandmate Joe Perry.

Since the confirmation of Tyler’s appointment on American Idol, Aerosmith’s future has been the subject of conflicting reports over the past few months. When the news first broke back in September, Joe Perry cast doubt on the group by being quoted as saying “if Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us.”

However, not long after, comments from Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford put a more positive spin on the group’s plans, when he claimed Tyler’s new TV schedule would free up time for the rest of the band to work on new material.

Those plans were once again put in doubt this week by Tyler, who told Rolling Stone the new LP is being delayed as he is “trying to rally the guys together. We’re having trouble getting Joe. I don’t know where he is.”

Now, the frontman has been quick to clarify those comments, and is quoted by BBC News as saying: “We are just on a break. We are still rocking big time. It’s not dead. It couldn’t be dead.”

The new American Idol season is due to begin in the US on January 19th.
