Eric Clapton has been named as the number one Guitar Hero amongst musicians in the UK, according to a new survey undertaken by the musical insurer Allianz Musical Insurance at this week’s Guitar Nation Live.
After re-starting the Plastic Ono Band in New York earlier this year for a show that included the likes of Eric Clapton, Paul Simon and Bette Midler, Yoko Ono is now set to play two new dates in Los Angeles in October which will feature a new collection of special guests.
Veteran musician Eric Clapton has unveiled the tracklisting for his upcoming solo album, his first in five years.
Launched in 1969 with the single “Give Peace a Chance”, Plastic Ono Band is known worldwide for its avant-garde music, film, art and activism. Early ’70s albums by the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band have proven to be influential and ahead-of-their-time.
40 years later, Yoko has revived the name and spirit of Plastic Ono Band, joined by son and co-producer Sean Lennon along with the creative Japanese musicians Haruomi Hosono,Yuka Honda and Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada, Naoki Shimizu and Yuko Araki).
Between My Head And The Sky (released 9/29/09) has garnered impressive critical acclaim, including four & five-star reviews from Rolling Stone, Mojo, Spin, Uncut, Q, NME, Nylon and others. Last year, Yoko was recognized with the prestigious Golden Lion lifetime achievement award at the Venice Biennale, and the Mojo Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award.
On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, Yoko will perform a very special concert featuring the “new” Plastic Ono Band, along with original members Eric Clapton and Klaus Voorman, plus an intriguing cast of special guests, friends & accomplices. It promises to be a unique, unpredictable and unforgettable evening.

According to recording engineer Kevin Shirley another fabulous supergroup might be in the making. Imagine guitar slingers Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith hitting the stages as the newest music super hero formation.
Shirley writes in his blog that Page and Clapton joined Perry and Whitford in a recording studio and that Page had been working with “many others” as well.
Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck are to join forces to play a one-off show after the pair announced they’ll take the stage at London’s O2 Arena on February 13th, 2010 at a joint concert that promises to be epic.
While both Clapton and Beck were both members of the Yardbirds, the two never performed together in the band.
Jeff Beck, who was Clapton’s replacement in the band in 1965, said: “Eric and I played together in Japan earlier this year and had a blast. Since then we have been in regular contact and talked about doing a similar show for our fans.”
“I’ve always considered Jeff Beck to be one of the finest guitar players around,” added Clapton. “He’s a friend, a great guy, and a truly gifted musician. We had such a fun time in Japan that it seemed natural to play together again”.
Both guitar gods will be performing solo sets followed by a joint set at the end of the 3 part concert
Tickets go on sale on Monday, September 28 via www.bookingsdirect.com.
Rumors that they’ll bring the joint show to the U.S. in 2010 are starting to spread….
