Live4ever’s New Tunes Guide feat. Gentlemen, MT Warning and more

Live4ever’s New Tunes Guide has highlights this week courtesy of Gentlemen and MT Warning.

Gentlemen have brought together their ‘Night Reels I’ and ‘Night Reels II’ EPs for a special vinyl collection which will be released on 24th February through Week Of Wonders. A truly international affair, the various bandmates originate from the UK, Italy and Australia, and formed in 2012. MT Warning formed out of a chance meeting between Mikey Bee and American film-maker Taylor Steele during a gig in Australia. The debut album is due in March while new single ‘Midnight Dawn’ drops on February 17th.

Lola King and the Kickstarts’ debut album, ‘The Handmade Tale of Lola King and the Kickstarts’, builds on the singles ‘Bounce Together’ and ‘The Great Divide’. During a summer festival tour which took in Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend, the Magic Loungeabout and Nozstock, a backstage encounter with Nile Rodgers of Chic inspired the band to self-produce their album and do it their own way, ditching their production and management team.”

“When Mikey Bee was playing a solo show in Australia, when American film-maker Taylor Steele happened to be in the audience and was intrigued by the performance. The film-maker approached the musician with a different way of writing songs. ‘How would a song sound from a man sinking into the ocean?’. The band name came about when Mikey and Taylor were thinking about what experience they were trying to create with the music. The name MT Warning was agreed upon.”

“Nashville-based indie rock band Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes will release its sophomore album ‘Kid Tiger’ on March 4th. Engineered by Grammy Award winner Vance Powell (Jack White, Kings of Leon, The Whigs), Kid Tiger was tracked live. The first single ‘Sun Goes Out’ is available for purchase and is streaming at SoundCloud.”

“The debut EP from Ghost Station came out on Monday, January 27th on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play. You can listen to the entire EP via the Ghost Station website, ghstn.com, plus there’s a blog with homages to Ian McCulloch, Gruff Rhys, Graham Coxon and, saving the best ’till last, the legends that are Chas & Dave.”

New Bums is the match-up of Donovan Quinn (Skygreen Leopards) and Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance, Comets on Fire, 200 Years, Rangda). They didn’t like each other at first, but now make music together and now, a video where they get closer than ever.”

“Maryland rockers Next To Nothing have released an acoustic video for ‘The Summer You Left For San Francisco’. The track is taken from Next To Nothing’s debut full length ‘Stories We’ve Never Told’, which was released on October 15th 2013.”

“French band We Were Evergreen have released a couple of singles and played a few shows in the UK last year supporting London Grammar and Little Dragon as well as their own sold out headline show at Village Underground. Their debut album is due for release this spring after signing with Island Records and their first single ‘Daughters’ is a perfect of what’s to come.”

“Combining 2013’s ‘Night Reels I’ EP with the brand new ‘Night Reels II’ EP, set for release on 24th February on Week of Wonders, ‘Night Reels’ is Gentlemen’s first collection put to record. The band have made new track ‘Gentle Duke’ available to stream as a preview to the forthcoming release as well as announcing a new London headline date for 18th March at The Sebright Arms.”

Tiger Dare’s newest single from their debut EP ‘Wires Over, Wired In’ will be out on March 25th.”

Yuri’s Accident is an indie band formed in Athens, Greece, in 2010 during a winter night when pints were flowing and David Bowie was singing ‘Starman’ on repeat. The band consists of five members: lead vocalist and guitarist Thanos Tsoumpris, flutist Stathis Doganis, keyboardist and backing vocalist Maria Pantsiou, drummer Irene Vikentiou, and bassist George Bakoulis.”

It’s all about the sound really.

The skitter of a drum machine, the romance of the 808 kicking “Manchester” into life, the howling feedback that links The Who to Jesus And the Mary Chain…to Napalm Death, the jangle that stretches from the Beatles to Arctic Monkeys, the soul groove that pulls back from Alex Turner’s Sheffield lads to Marvin Gaye and rebounds to Robin Thicke.

What you need is something that can handle all of those sounds. Something that will cope with whatever mood you’re in. Something that will be true to what you need to hear.

ei8htball. It’s all in your head.
