Manic Street Preachers will visit Australia later this year for a series of live dates which coincide with the British & Irish Lions’ 2013 tour of the country.

“As massive rugby fans the chance to visit one of our favourite countries, play some gigs and watch the British and Irish Lions play Australia is an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity,’ the band have said in a statement.

The Manics have scheduled shows at the Melbourne Festival Hall on June 28th and the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on July 5th  – gigs which arrive on the eve of the second and third Lions tests respectively.

“We can’t wait to play a selection of our greatest hits to our Australian fans and the thousands of Lions fans travelling down under,” the group continue. “It should be an amazing and memorable few shows.”

The British & Irish Lions is a touring collective of rugby union players selected from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales which visits one of the sport’s southern hemisphere giants once every four years – a tradition which dates back to 1888.
