Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig has responded to yesterday’s news that founder member Rostam Batmanglij has left the band.
In a statement posted on Twitter announcing his departure, Batmanglij did say that he would be continuing to collaborate with Koenig and ended: “There is so much amazing music – all of it dear to me – on its way to you. It’s an exciting time, and I feel lucky to share it with you.”
Now, Koenig has given a few more details on how the departure came about during his own statement on social media, this time on Instagram. “A couple years ago, Rostam and I sat down at his house and talked about whether our collaboration was dependent on being members of the same band,” he revealed.
“We both firmly agreed that nope, it was not. In fact, we agreed that our collaboration was more important.”
He added that work is continuing on the band’s fourth studio album, declaring himself ‘psyched about the work we’ve already begun’.
