U2 ‘returning to spiritual home’ for release of new album

U2 are returning to their ‘spiritual home’ of Island Records in time for the release of their new album, according to the PA.

It is being claimed Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. are about to rejoin the label which first signed them in the late Seventies after a fall out seven years ago led to them taking up residence at Mercury.

Meanwhile, reports last month suggested the band will officially announce their first studio album since 2009 at the Super Bowl in February with a view to having the record out the following April. Bass player Clayton recently told Irish radio station 98FM that they expected to have work completed by the end of this year.

“I think it’s a bit of a return to U2 of old, but with the maturity, if you like, of the U2 of the last 10 years,” he said. “We’re in the studio. We’re trying to get these 12 songs absolutely right and get them finished by the end of November, and then we can kind of enjoy Christmas.”
