FEWS have made their return with news of a brand new studio album entitled Glass City.
It’ll be the band’s first since Into Red – the writing of that 2019 LP described at the time by Frederick Rundqvist as, ‘by far the most personal thing I’ve ever experienced’, recorded with the aim of, ‘making an album that actually meant something’.
The follow-up is being previewed with a self-directed video for Get Out, while spring UK tour dates – including a stop at Lending Room in Leeds – are also booked after a gig at Plan B in Malmö, Sweden on April 22nd.
Jessie Ware will follow 2020’s What’s Your Pleasure? on April 28th.
Pearls is the first single to be taken from That! Feels Good! – described by Ware as a record that, ‘doesn’t take itself too seriously’.
“It’s inspired by divas like Donna Summer, Evelyn Champagne King, Teena Marie and Chaka khan and I guess attempts to show – in lightness – all the hats I try to wear (usually at the same time).”
bdrmm have been back at Nave Studios in Leeds with producer Alex Greaves and will release their new album I Don’t Know on June 30th.
Out now is a video for lead single It’s Just A Bit Of Blood directed by Chris Tomsett / Innerstrings.
“Most people who have seen us tour will recognise this track,” band member James Holden said.
Moreish Idols are streaming their new single Nocturnal Creatures.
It follows on from last year’s Speedy Wunderground debut EP Float, whose release coincided with a Live4ever Presents… introducing feature:
“Jude and Tom are the main songwriters, they’re the ones thinking these things through from start to finish and giving the songs soul,” they told us. “Writing the lyrics, etc. Tom’s an amazing songwriter; he’s really influenced by Radiohead.”
Sleaford Mods have premiered Force 10 From Navarone, their collaboration with Dry Cleaning’s Florence Shaw.
“We’re big fans of Dry Cleaning and knew Flo would be perfect for the track,” Jason Williamson remembered. “She’s the real deal and conjures the inspiration I get from the likes of Wu-Tang in the way she uses one word to convey a whole story.”
The track has been taken from the duo’s new album UK Grim, which is due for release on March 10th.
Ten Tonnes will release his second album Dancing, Alone on July 28th.
Ethan Barnett spent time in the studio with The Maccabees cohort Jag Jago as he aimed to bring a four-year gap between albums to an end.
“I wrote this song at the tail end of 2020 while I was trying lots of different ideas out for the new album,” he’s said of the single.
Django Django are unveiling their new album Off Planet in four parts – starting with the tracks Wishbone, Complete Me, Osaka, Hands High and Lunar Vibrations.
The full version is to be made available from June 16th, while the release of a visualiser for Complete Me, featuring Self Esteem, highlights the need for collaboration which the band chased during its recording.
“The instrumental for Complete Me was made sometime in 2020 or 21 when the world was in lockdown and I was making music in my garden shed studio,” Dave Maclean has said.
The breakdown of a relationship and long-term struggles with addiction and mental health was the backdrop to a record which BC Camplight has described as, ‘more cinematic, sophisticated and nuanced than anything I’ve done before’.
The Last Rotation Of Earth will be out on May 12th – the successor to 2020’s Shortly After Takeoff – and followed by UK and Ireland tour dates in November.
“This is not a story of victory,” Brian Christinzio said. “It is a document created in the shadow of incredible darkness.
ROE has made her return with new single My Greatest Fear.
“Back in December I was at a loss,” the Derry-based songwriter said. “My first album was out, shows were dying down and I found myself going back through old voice notes on my phone. Among the endless scroll of unfinished demos, MGF was one that stood out.”
“The whole process of making this song was eerily straight forward. We recorded everything we needed to in a couple days. There was no question of what this song wanted to be and that made it really exciting. My Greatest Fear is screaming into the void, melodically.”
LUNGE have announced their new EP with its lead single This Idle Motion.
EP1 will be released on April 7th, while the single, mixed by Dan Carey, has premiered with a video directed by Simon Owens.
“Lunge appeared all silvery, reflective and urgent through my left kneecap,” Owens said. “I looked down, bent my knee and heard golden pop coming through the radio. It struck me the lead singer Viva could have two personalities in song form, dark and light, or light and shadow.”
Shalom has released Soccer Mommy from her forthcoming debut album Sublimation, out on March 10th via Saddle Creek.
“This song is about a time in my life that I used to be very upset and embarrassed about, but now I’m like, wow, I feel so much better after writing this song,” she’s explained.
“It’s called Soccer Mommy because I got my driver’s license in late 2019 and spent my first year on the road listening to Color Theory and thinking about my 20-year-old self who didn’t deserve the things that happened to her. I love Soccer Mommy. I’m terrified of driving, but I always felt brave listening to Circle The Drain on 287 south.”
