The Who were ‘late replacements for Prince’ and had ‘equipment sabotaged’ at Glastonbury

The Who were late replacements for Prince at Glastonbury last month and had their equipment ‘sabotaged’ before going onstage, according to a gig report on the band’s official website.

The uncredited blog post claims Prince, who has yet to headline Glastonbury despite being constantly linked with the event, ‘decided not to go’ this year, and goes on to criticise the event’s crew for tampering with the band’s equipment – guitarist Pete Townshend did complain about the sound on a number of occasions during the performance.

“After crowd-pleasing sets by Lionel Richie and Paul Weller, it was time for The Who to close out the festival weekend, starting again just as the sun was setting,” a part of the post states.

“(Not many know that we were a last-months addition to the show, replacing Prince who decided not to come this year.) As we began to prepare our coming changeover, we found someone had sabotaged the carefully-tested audio connections for much of our gear.”

“We’ve never seen that before, but we’re good at plugging things in, so all damage was repaired in time. Was it Mr. Weller or Lionel, no way. Dalai Lama – hmmm…. he did steal the show already. Well, so far…”
