The Weeknd’s follow-up to his blockbuster 2020 effort After Hours has been razor sharp in its arrival; initially being announced on New Year’s Day via a social media message between the Canadian musician and his creative director La Mar Taylor.
“Happy new year!,” The Weeknd replied to a message from Taylor. “Everything feels chaotic again. Music can heal and that feels more important than another album rollout. Let’s just drop the whole thing and enjoy it with the people.”
It was an ethos reiterated by Abel Tesfaye aka yesterday when it was pointed out that physical versions of the record are a way behind this streaming release.
“This doesn’t matter to me,” he wrote. “What matters is getting to experience the album together with the fans during these times.”
