The Strokes‘ ‘global comeback’ has started with their inclusion on the bill for next year’s Bilbao BBK festival.
The band’s return has been primed well over two years on from the Future Present Past EP, which at the time appeared to suggest the New Yorkers were readying a full album, especially since Nick Valensi did nothing to dispel the rumours during his CRX promotions not long after. He told NME that The Strokes were ‘alive and well’, and revealed to DIY that they were ‘slowly but surely working on an album’:
“I don’t know when it’s going to be released, we’re kind of just in writing sessions. We’re writing. I’m actually in New York at the moment, at a studio in New York for that.”
Rumours continued when Albert Hammond Sr suggested recording sessions were being undertaken with Rick Rubin, a claim Jr quickly shot down on Twitter. Now we can put something concrete to their name though – the appearance in Bilbao is booked for the weekend of July 11th-13th 2019.
