The Libertines have made the short film, directed by Roger Sargent, which was shown prior to the band’s live return at Hyde Park last July available for everyone to soak up on YouTube after what they describe as ‘a frenzy on Twitter and Facebook’.
“I made this short film to be shown before the Hyde Park show and wanted it to convey how important the band are, how much we missed them and how good it was too have them back,” Sargent has said.
The director was also behind the feature length documentary There Are No Innocent Bystanders, which followed The Libertines during their first live return back in 2010 when they headlined that year’s Reading/Leeds Festival.
This comeback has a much more secure feel about it though after the original British Summer Time date flowered into a busy summer of European and headline shows. Pete Doherty and Carl Barat also appear to be pressing ahead with their intention to write new material with a view to releasing their first studio album since 2004.
