The Libertines have moved to reassure fans over the health of Pete Doherty after the band cancelled a gig in London last night (September 10th).

A show set for the Manchester Ritz tonight has also been postponed, and rumours surrounding Doherty’s well-being have been vociferously spread online since the London gig was eventually pulled two hours after stage-time.

It’s been enough for The Libertines to use their Twitter account to reassure fans over what has until now only been described as a ‘medical situation’.

“We can assure everyone that Peter is safe,” the tweet reads. “Clearly this is a very private matter in many respects, but we also feel it necessary to let people know he is OK.”

It’s all starting to overshadow what should be an entirely positive day for the band as they officially release third studio album ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth‘ over a decade after its self-titled predecessor.
