“Saturday evening watching TV, Baywatch should’ve taught me better than that.”

The line which sparked Little Comets‘ new single Baywatch; the bounce, hook and considered message making for an immediate welcome addition to the band’s arsenal of tracks with such traits.

More than a decade of ups, downs and most importantly an overarching independent spirit should have provided Little Comets with better preparation than most for what 2020 has thrown at the music world.

Our 2019 retrospective series ends today with the countdown of Live4ever’s 20 favourite music videos featured on these pages during the past 12 months.

Live4ever’s Best Of 2019: The Tracks

On our Best Albums list, 2019 brought us future classics from Fontaines D.C., Dave, The Murder Capital, FEET, slowthai and black midi to name just a few. Those and plenty more feature too on our favourite tracks of the year.

Picked out by editor David Smith from the hundreds which have featured on these pages during the past twelve months, Sinead O’Brien, Dry Cleaning, Black Country New Road, Kate Tempest and Working Men’s Club are just some who have added to a year which, whilst nostalgia has continued its grip on the mainstream, has quietly created a vintage all of its own.

Little Comets at The Wardrobe, Leeds

“Some things transcend the passages of time, taste and fashion. Joyous, upbeat guitar led music is one of them.

Little Comets have been operating for over a decade now and it would be fair to say that, despite their successes, they’ve sadly never permeated the mainstream. It’s a crying shame but doesn’t seem to bother the band one iota, and on tonight’s showing it’s clear why: they have a staunchly loyal following, and it seems to be one that regenerates itself.”

Surveying the audience, the majority of those in attendance tonight (November 1st) would’ve been in single figures when Little Comets’ debut album was released. In the natural order of things, these kids should be watching unsigned bands, not one that’s four albums in.
