Sufjan Stevens will release it on October 6th.
Sufjan Stevens has announced his new album Javelin, the first collection of solo music from the songwriter since 2020’s The Ascension.
The 10-track LP is being previewed with So You Are Tired, and is swiftly following Stevens’ Reflections collaboration with Justin Peck.
“Many would be intimidated by the just the idea, but there’s no question of seeking to appeal only towards exclusivity in the seven pieces which make the release up,” our review reads.
“There is an obvious gap however in imagining an audio-visual experience without the latter, so imagination is required when attempting to track the former to a spectacle.”
Opener Ekstasis, for example, features a cascading, back-and-forth pan that seems like a conversation with an impetuous child, whilst the affirmatory notes of Euphoros rise and fall disobediently as if they’re trying to break free from some perceived captivity.
Javelin tracklist:
Goodbye Evergreen
A Running Start
Will Anybody Ever Love Me?
Everything That Rises
Genuflecting Ghost
My Red Little Fox
So You Are Tired
Javelin (To Have And To Hold)
