Stone Temple Pilots suing former frontman Scott Weiland

stonetemplepilotsStone Temple Pilots are suing their former frontman Scott Weiland in an attempt to prevent him from using their name and songs in the future, it has emerged.

According to reports this weekend, the lawsuit was filed last Friday (May 24th) and claims an agreement made in 1996 forbids any former members from taking advantage of the Stone Temple Pilots banner, and also blames ‘addiction and tardiness’ for his departure earlier this year.

“I learned of my supposed ‘termination’ from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press,” Weiland said at the time. “Not sure how I can be ‘terminated’ from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out.”

In addition, the group also claim their former singer has ‘gone out of his way’ to prevent the new single ‘Out Of Time‘ from gaining radio airplay.

It was recently announced Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington will be taking up Weiland’s place for an undisclosed length of time.
