A taste of Spookyland‘s debut album has been revealed via the track ‘Bulimic‘ which can be heard below.
Led by Marcus Gordon, Spookyland are ready to build on last year’s brilliant ‘Rock and Roll Weakling‘ EP which formed a part of Live4ever’s Presents series (more of which in moment) in October 2014.
“Bulimic is mostly a song about social friction I think, when there’s chaos in your mind, there’s a certain impulse to hurl the whole thing into the toilet bowl to find some kind of self-esteem, but this kind of program is basically doomed,” Gordon explains. “Bulimia of one’s humanity.”
In the aforementioned Presents feature, we were won over by Gordon’s ‘tough, self-involved melancholy’.
“As the power ballad drums crank up like they’re trying to make a point, so does the song: whining is not just for pussies,” the review continues. “The badass touch – maybe best shown through the emptiness in Gordon’s vague eyes and facial blood spat at the camera on the track’s official video – is refreshingly welcome in an abundance of artists who can’t keep their cool while wringing their hearts.”
