After enjoying huge critical acclaim following the release of his ‘Band Of Joy‘ album last year, former Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant has said he now wants to move the project away from reworking established tracks, and to release an album of original material, saying they now ‘have to write’ their own songs. “It’s all very well celebrating other people’s songwriting,” he told the Pulse of Radio. “I know there are other artists who have had an entire career – whether it be Elvis or Sinatra, or a lot of the country artists who never write. But we’ve got to be heading that way soon.”

Cheryl Cole‘s move onto the US’ impeding version of hit TV show The X Factor could be in doubt amidst rumours producers are worried American audiences may prefer a more recognisable face when the programme launches. Get ready for one of The Sun’s reliable ‘sources’ – this time friend of Cheryl’s rumoured boyfriend Derek Hough…: “Everyone thinks Cheryl has the judging job on US ‘X Factor’ in the bag,” he is quoted as saying. “The truth is, nothing has been signed and the producers still aren’t convinced. They are more keen to get a big US star like Katy or Rihanna on the panel – someone who will bring credibility to the show and who is already popular in the US.”

Back in 2009, Chapel Club‘s ‘Surfacing‘ made waves as a startlingly confident debut which featured the classic recording ‘Dream a Little Dream Of Me‘ being given the shoe-gazing treatment with impressive results. 18 months on, and with a new album set for release at the end of this month, Chapel Club return with a more polished production and video which now gives the track its full justice. Scottish band The View have been revealing their own songwriting methods when in the studio, and unsurprisingly it involves drugs. Frontman Kyle Falconer says: “You can’t write with no influence. The only thing I ever wrote when I wasn’t under the influence was the last verse lyrics to ‘Same Jeans’, that’s the only thing. If we’d never been with the candyman, we’d never have been able to write songs. When we were writing ‘Tragic Magic’ we went and got loads of chico. We had to get off our tits to finish it.”

More bad news for Doves fans today with a statement on the band’s official website confirming the cancellation of their planned Australian tour. “We regret to announce that due to circumstances beyond our control we have been forced to cancel our forthcoming tour of Australia,” the statement reads. “This is a decision we have not taken lightly and our sincere apologies go out to anyone who has bought tickets for the shows and for any inconvenience caused.”
