In today’s Soundbites, our quick take on news, reviews and tabloid gossip, Britney Spears is put under instruction to scrub up better, the V festival has some promising weather news, and Courtney Love settles yet another Nirvana dispute. There’s also news of a supergroup split, Russell Brand loses a MTV gig, and a new album from Noah and The Whale.
Britney Spears has always seemed well polished and up on her cleanliness, well, up until the slight off-the-rails period a few years ago. But according to recent rumours, she has been put under instruction to scrub up more from her boyfriend Jason Trewick. A ‘source’ is quoted as saying: “Britney isn’t the type to cover herself in pretty smelling lotions. She hates washing her hair, so sometimes it can smell downright sour. She’ll sometimes grab an outfit and wear it two or three times in a week. Recently she put on a sundress for the third day in a row, but Jason refused to leave the house with her until she put on something else. Thankfully she’s trying more now because even she knows you couldn’t think of a more embarrassing reason for a relationship to break down.”
It’s generally been an unusually warm summer during this year’s festival season, with Glastonbury especially having people wondering what that strange yellow disc in the sky was. Now according to final weather reports, this weekend’s V festival looks set to continue the trend. The Staffordshire site looks set for sun for all of Saturday with a chance of rain on Sunday afternoon, while Chelmsford should also be mainly dry, with the possibility of light rain on both days.
Freebass, the Manchester super-group set up by bassists Peter Hook, Mani and Andy Rourke is now Double Bass after the former Smiths man walked away from the band this week. According to the Freebass website, Rourke is ‘now living in NYC and will not be joining the band for live dates.’ In addition, all references to Rourke on Freebass’ press releases, Twitter and Wikipedia have also been completely removed. Hmm…
Courtney Love has settled a long-running dispute with a management company over the proceeds from a sale of rights to her late husband Kurt Cobain’s songs, reports BBC News. Two years ago, London and Co sued Love for $1m claiming she owed money from selling Nirvana’s publishing rights. Now a judge in Los Angeles has been told the case was settled, while Love’s lawyer, James Janowitz, also confirmed the news but declined to provide any further details.
Big-selling stand up tours, movie roles and most importantly engaged to popstar Katy Perry. It seems just about everything is going right these days in the life of Russell Brand. Well, he did suffer one setback this week after it was announced he has been replaced as the host of the MTV Video Music Awards by US comedian Chelsea Handler. “Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of Chelsea Lately,” Handler said on her show Chelsea Lately. “And that’s why I will be hosting them.”
Noah and The Whale will release their third studio album in March 2011, the follow-up to 2009’s ‘The First Day Of Spring’. The news was announced today via a re-design of their website, which featured a black and white photo of a speaker with comic book character Tintin standing next to it, all of which hadthe confirmed release date underneath.
