Snow Patrol frontman and chief songwriter Gary Lightbody has revealed he scrapped an entire album’s worth of new material recorded during the sessions for their 2011 LP ‘Fallen Empires‘, and has instead written a new collection of songs which are ‘light years away’ from anything the band have produced before.
“We recorded a second album during the ‘Fallen Empires’ session,” Lightbody told NME. “But we’ve scrapped that one now. The songs I’ve been writing recently are light years away from anything I’ve ever done. It’s mind-boggling stuff.”
On ‘Fallen Empires’, which was released in November 2011, Lightbody said it ‘seems to be doing really well in Europe’, before adding: “To be honest though, it hasn’t done as well in America as we’d hoped, but then again, it hasn’t been disastrous.”
“I won’t be happy though until we’re huge in America, in fact, until we’re huge all round the world. I’m never satisfied with what I’ve been given.”
