Smashing Pumpkins mainman Billy Corgan has hinted the band’s future may be thrown into doubt if their forthcoming album ‘Oceania‘ struggles to make an impact on the music scene.
In an interview with Billboard, Corgan appeared to suggest the level of success achieved by their ninth studio effort could have a big say on the future plans of the band.
“If we’re able to get that sense that something is happening again and get people to rally behind us a bit, I think the next three, four years will be very interesting for the band,” Corgan said.
“I think if ‘Oceania’ basically hits the same wall a lot of the other stuff has hit, we’re going to have to step back and really evaluate where we’re going, because it’s a tremendous amount of energy to put out to just feel like you’re throwing a pebble in the ocean.”
‘Oceania’ is widely expected to now be released in November after a planned September issue was delayed.
Billy’s unquenchable thirst for public adulation: it’s over man. It’s not 1995 anymore, get with it. I like SP and Billy but GEN Y is a different breed.
