Former Guns n Roses guitarist Slash has put an end to rumours linking Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor with the vacant Velvet Revolver frontman position, saying ‘it just wasn’t right’ when Taylor auditioned with the band.

Speaking to the Argentian website Vorterix.com, Slash explained the methods of Velvet Revolver’s current auditions, and why Taylor didn’t meet those standards.

“We did work with Corey, but all we were doing was trying him out,” he explained. “Our process is that we take a lot of music we wrote and give it to the guy we’re auditioning, he writes his lyrics, we perform it, record it and see what it’s like.”

“So he did come in and do all that, but it just wasn’t right. It didn’t seem to fit to me. It didn’t seem like the answer to the Velvet Revolver problem.”

Slash first broke the news of Velvet Revolver’s search for a new singer back in October 2010, following the departure of Stone Temple PilotsScott Leiland.
