“This record sounds like a Sigur Rós album, but it’s more introverted than before,” the band said.

Sigur Rós will release ÁTTA tomorrow, their first studio album in a decade.

This news swiftly follows the unveiling of Blóðberg, itself the band’s first new song in seven years and one which officially marked the return of multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson.

With Sveinsson back in the fold, the vibe of the recording sessions which took place in Iceland, Abbey Road and various locations in the US were of, ‘just wanting to have minimal drums and for the music to be really sparse, floaty and beautiful’, according to Jónsi, while Sveinsson added:

We wanted to allow ourselves to be a bit dramatic and go far with these arrangements. The world needs that right now. It’s hard to describe, but for me everything is always open to interpretation. People can think and feel how they want.
