Scott Weiland, of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died at the age of 48

Scott Weiland, a leading figure on the US alternative rock scene after fronting Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died at the age of 48.

Weiland’s death was confirmed last night (December 3rd) by his manager Tom Vitorino, who revealed in a statement on Instagram that the singer had, ‘passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts’.

“Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts,” the full statement reads. “At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”

Weiland was a part of Stone Temple Pilots for nearly 20 years before their first split in 2002, after which he joined forces with former Guns n Roses Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum to release two studio albums between 2004-07.
