The Sheffield Leadmill has for decades been one of the UK’s best known and most popular music venues.

The Music Venue Trust is leading calls for the Sheffield Leadmill to be saved after those behind the venue revealed on social media they had received, ‘some devastating news that in one year’s time, our Landlord is evicting us and forcing us to close’.

Artists and fans alike were quick to share their anger at the news while MVT, which fought the corner for small and independent music hubs throughout the pandemic, called on the city’s council to ‘demonstrate that it is not prepared to see its music culture closed down’:

“We call on the Council to immediately implement an Asset of Community Value status on the premises as the first step in ensuring the venue is initially protected from closure,” they wrote. “MVT will be working to ensure that once protected from immediate threat, the long term future is secured.”
