Rough Trade is to venture outside of London for the first time and has plans to open a shop in Nottingham – ‘the first of many’ – as the label has said on Twitter.
From their original base of Ladbroke Grove, their home since 1976, Rough Trade has become a leading name in British independent music and has, via the subsequent Rough Trade label, supported the early careers of bands such as The Smiths and The Libertines.
A second London store opened in Shoreditch in 2007, while a branch was launched in Brooklyn, New York last year. Those three outlets all hosted special gigs during this year’s Record Store Day celebrations, when the likes of TOY, East India Youth, Slow Club, Edwyn Collins, Milagres and Fear Of Men performed.
The newest shop is planned for Nottingham’s Creative Quarter, the label has promised it will be their ‘finest store yet’.
