Roger Waters brought his lengthy The Wall tour to an end last weekend with a gig in Quebec City in front of 75,000 people.
The ex-Pink Floyd guitarist began the re-imagined version of his former band’s ill-fated 1980-81 tour – produced in support of their eleventh studio album – back in 2010 and has since appeared in 27 countries, performing the show 160 times.
“40 years ago, we couldn’t have filled the space in a way that would have been emotionally, musically and theatrically satisfying,” Waters said when launching the new production. “Technology has changed, now we can.”
Last week, Waters was confirmed to have enjoyed the highest grossing tour of the year so far according to Billboard, having earned $131.4 million (£83.6 million) from November 1st 2011 to May 31st 2012 after selling 1.2 million tickets.
That figure put Waters comfortably in front of the act in second place – Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackon: The Immortal Tour – which has amassed $68.4 million (£43.5 million) over the same period.
