Robert Smith has told Cure fans to expect a brand new album from the band next year.

Speaking to SiriusXM upon The Cure’s inclusion on the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s induction list for 2019, Smith said curating the Meltdown Festival this year had inspired him to begin work on a first studio record since 2008’s 4:13 Dream, with final sessions set to take place ‘in six weeks time’.

It should mean Smith will have some new material to add to his famously mammoth live sets when The Cure undertake a lengthy period of European festival touring during the summer of 2019.
