Ringo Starr has released a statement denying his involvement with newly-discovered recordings of Rory Storm & The Hurricanes – the band he was in immediately before joining The Beatles.
The news broke last week of the chance discovery which was made in the basement of Rory Storm’s sister’s house. However, Ringo has now said the tracks, reportedly laid down at both the Jive Hive club in Liverpool and Storm’s home in Merseyside, were done so after he had left to permanently replace Pete Best in The Beatles.
“It’s not me, that was done after I’d left to join the Beatles,” the statement reads. “I don’t know who the drummer was but I hope that Rory fans enjoy it anyway.”
“The only two tracks I was on were recorded while we were in Germany in 1960, when we made a two track acetate, and for those of you in the digi world that is a-ce-tate, of Mailman bring me no more blues, a Buddy Holly song sang by Lou Walters and Fever, and I’d love to hear those tracks ’cause I don’t have a copy.”
The rough demos have been brought together for an album entitled ‘Live at the Jive Hive‘ which will be released on September 17th.
