Richard Hawley and John Grant both brought their new albums to Later…With Jools Holland last night (October 6th) – those in the UK can check out performances below.

Hawley released ‘Hollow Meadows‘ last month, while John Grant’s own new record ‘Grey Tickles, Black Pressure‘ is out on Friday (October 9th).

“‘Hollow Meadows’ is sumptuous and lavish from beginning to end. Gone is the powerful, emotional beauty of ‘Sky’s Edge…’ for the introduction instead of a more aesthetic beauty,” we said of Richard Hawley. “It’s less raw emotion and more deep contemplations on the world around him. Put simply, its objective over subjective beauty.”

“At its peak however there’s still a moment to cherish in ‘No More Tangles‘, itself about the conflicted habitat for Grant of Stockholm; a place he loved but also where he received his positive HIV diagnosis,” our ‘Grey Tickles…’ review reads.

“A jag against co-dependency, the song is instead interwoven with its regret over lost time. ‘No more rainbow games, with narcissistic queers’, but oddly the momentum it creates is now forward not back, a sense of identity strong enough to find singular expression via the emotional medium of solipsism.”
