Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chickenfoot drummer, Chad Smith, revealed that the group are set to begin recording their next album sometime around July
Chad told musicradar: “We have a lot of material, probably about 20 songs”
This will be the US rockers’ tenth studio album and will have Rick Rubin take the producer’s seat.
“Pre-production will take a few months, but I’d say by July we’ll be laying down real tracks.” Smith added.
Last year Josh Klinghoffer joined the band as their new guitarist replacing long time Chili Peppers veteran John Frusciante. The follow-up LP to 2006’s ‘Stadium Arcadium‘ will be the first to feature the new band member.
“We were sad to see John leave the band but he has to do what he wants and follow his path,” Smith said, adding that despite Frusciante’s departure, that his replacement was a “natural fit”.
“Josh is a real creative force,” he said. “He’s going to play guitar, he’s going to write music, he’s going to sing and play keyboards. We’re all thrilled to have Josh be part of the group.”
