A rare photograph of The Beatles walking in the opposite direction to their iconic ‘Abbey Road‘ record sleeve is being put up for auction in London next week.
The snap, taken by Iain Macmillan, is predicted to command a fee of around £9,000 when it goes on sale. It shows John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr walking from right-to-left across the now famous zebra crossing near to the their studios – the direct opposite of the picture which adorns their 1969 album.
In addition, Paul McCartney can be seen wearing sandals in the picture, despite being bare-footed on the ‘Abbey Road’ sleeve.
Sarah Wheeler, of Bloomsbury Auctions in London who will host the auction on May 22nd, has told The Guardian: “The photo has been called an icon of the 1960s. I think the reason it became so popular is its simplicity. It’s a very simple, stylised shot and is a shot people can relate to.”
