The Monkees‘ singer Davy Jones has been laid to rest at a private service near his home in Florida, his publicist has confirmed.

Jones’ ashes will be flown back to his native Manchester, Helen Kensick told Reuters, after the private service was attended by members of his family. A public memorial will now be held next week in his home city.

Earlier this week, one of Jones’ surviving Monkees bandmates, Micky Dolenz, suggested they would stay away from the service to respect family wishes of a ‘very low-key’ occasion.

“You can imagine as soon as one, or two, or any of us were to show up, it would very quickly be degraded,” he told Billboard.

Meanwhile, Davy Jones’ eldest sister, Hazel Wilkinson, recently described her memories of her to BBC Radio Lancashire, remembering: “He was the youngest member of the family, he was fit and there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with him.”

Davy Jones passed away suddenly on February 29th after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 66 years old.
