Paul Ryder was 58.

The death of Happy Mondays bass player Paul Ryder has been announced by the band.

“The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning,” a statement reads.

“A true pioneer and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time. Long live his funk.”

With his brother Shaun out front, Ryder was a part of the group from formation to when they found a home with Factory Records in the mid-80s, going on to lead that legendary label’s second wave of success as their crossover appeal played a big part in the soundtrack of the Hacienda and the ‘Second Summer Of Love’ era as a whole.
