Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Public Enemy‘s Chuck D and countless other stars have been paying tribute to Prince today as the music world faces up to life without another of its greatest icons.

“I am deeply shocked to hear of Prince’s passing,” Mick Jagger said on Twitter. “Prince was a revolutionary artist, a great musician, composer, a wonderful lyricist, a startling guitar player but most importantly, authentic in every way.”

“Prince’s talent was limitless. He was one of the most unique and talented artists of the last 30 years.”

Paul McCartney stated simply, ‘God bless this creative giant’, while Chuck D wrote:

“I’m a man of words, I’m kinda speechless on losing Prince. It’s like the Earth is missing a note. Little to say – only thing to do is play.”

After rumours of a serious medical incident causing his private jet to make an emergency landing earlier this month, news of Prince’s death emerged yesterday. A spokesperson confirmed the news to the BBC, saying:

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57.”

“There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.”
